Introducing Donna, our newest Charity Administrator!

We’re happy to introduce our latest member in the GoodCall team, Donna Walker. We sat down and asked some questions about her start with us!

Can you share a little about your journey to becoming a Charity Administrator at GoodCall?

I began my career over 25 years ago – working in Housing and carried out a variety of roles within that sector, working with local government, Housing Associations and also working for contractors and looking after the contracts from the other side.  I’ve also worked for BT, carried out sales roles in leading furniture retailers, and various smaller administrative roles.  I re-located to Northern Ireland for 12 years and since having my 3 Children I have worked in various roles that would allow me to be at home with them including registering and running my own business as a Childminder.  I returned to Scotland in 2024 and worked as a Catering Assistant in a High School until I was fortunate to find this role which really fits in to both my family life and commitments but also utilises a lot of the skills and experience I have gained in the variety of roles I have carried out.

What aspects of your background or education have shaped your interest in digital inclusion?

From previously working for charities I understand that budgets and finances can be restricted but I also know that in this modern world that reliable access to internet, social media, search engines etc. is a necessity and that charities should have the same facilities on offer to them in order to support and grow their success.

What motivates you professionally and how does this role at GoodCall align with your ambitions?

Everything I do is for my Children, and I feel that as a single mother it is critical that I show them that you can work in a job that is right for you and one that aligns with your own life, and makes you happy.  The role as Charity Administrator allows me to use my knowledge and experiences so that I am comfortable and capable but it also allows me to push myself and learn new skills which is very important to me.  The hours allow me to be there for all of my Children so our home life is not affected and while they are at School and thriving I am able to have that time to make a positive impact and to develop my own career further.

How do you hope to contribute to GoodCall’s mission of breaking down barriers to digital access for communities?

I feel that I have joined GoodCall at a very exciting time, and with my energy I am keen to support the team in growing GoodCall’s current client base and spreading our name even further, whilst continuing to offer the fantastic support that we already do and retaining our current clients.

The more Charities we can engage with the more we can break down these barriers and level the playing field for everyone.

Is there a particular experience or value that inspires you to work with charities and community groups?

Personally I like to feel that I am making an impact, with everything that I do.  I am an empathetic person and get great satisfaction from helping others.  Learning about the charities that we work with, and hearing how the money we save them is repurposed is such a reward.

What skills or strengths are you most excited to use or develop as part of GoodCall’s team?

I am the most excited, and eager, to develop my networking skills and also to really brush up on the tech side of things.
