Can you tell me your name, and your new job role at GoodCall?
Aaron: My name is Aaron Sloan and I’m a Charity Engagement Officer with GoodCall.
Katie: My name is Katie Higgins and I am the new Charity Administrator for GoodCall.
Where do you come from and what are your educational credentials (degree, diploma etc.)?
A: Born in London (Sottish Parents) grew up in West London went straight into the workforce after leaving School at 16. Starting a degree at the end of the year in Philosophy & Psychology with the Open University.
K: I am based in Dundee – have no degree, diploma. High school is the highest level of education I have achieved. Work wise, I have worked in a number of roles over the last 12 years mainly on customer service or administration duties for the companies. All have been corporate and mainly financial. Working with bank accounts, pensions, stocks and share ISAs. So charity is all new to me but really enjoying it so far and excited to see what’s to come.
What motivated you to join GoodCall, and what are you hoping to learn or achieve in this role?
A: I was drawn to GoodCall as it would give me the opportunity to work for a social enterprise and alongside charities to make a positive impact on their organisations and communities. I’ve mainly worked for more corporate organisations, and I felt a social Enterprise/GoodCall aligns more with my personality.
I’m hoping to achieve more experience working alongside charities and bringing new charities on-board and being a part of GoodCall as they grow and develop further.
K: I have come from a corporate background. The idea of working alongside charities really excites me as I feel with this role it has so much more job satisfaction. I am really enjoying being introduced to the different charities and learning all about the different organisations and what they do.
I think also just the experience of getting to work nonprofit with the organisations really at the heart of our what we do and everything we do is the most beneficial and cost efficient for organisations.
How do you see yourself making a positive impact for people or communities who face barriers to digital access?
A: I see myself making a positive impact by showing up with empathy, patience and a genuine desire to help. Weather it’s helping a charity find the right solution or just being someone reliable they can turn to; I want people to feel like they’re in good hands.
K: I think to just continuously speak about the good that GoodCall do. Explaining to organisations the benefits of GoodCall.
Part of my role now is to make sure the customer service is where we need to be. Checking in with organisations making sure they have what they require, access to the bills and helping them as quickly as I can with any issues that may arise.
What interests you about working with charities and community groups, even if it’s something new for you?
A: What interests me most is being a part of something that feels purposeful. Its not just about business, it’s about impact. I enjoy supporting the people behind these organisations and helping them get the tools they need to keep doing what they do best. Being able to play even a small part in that is something that means a lot to me.
K: This is all really new to me, briefly touched on this before but I do find it really interesting just speaking to the different charities and learning what they do in the community.
Its great also being able to help them with the costs of their mobile phones/data plans and take the load off with analysing these and ensuring the billing is correct for all.
Are there any skills or strengths you’re excited to develop further in this position?
A: I’m really looking forward to building my confidence in tech and learning more about how mobile solutions can support charities and communities. The job also allows me to develop in a new area while still using what I’m good at connecting with people and solving problems.
K: The networking is something I am excited to develop. I have not had a chance to do much of this previously. I love what GoodCall is about and really excited to get out and about with people to shout about it.
