Transforming Mobile Infrastructure for Social Impact: An Impact Study with The Prince’s Trust

INTRODUCTION

In the ever-evolving landscape of nonprofit organisations, leveraging technology is crucial for delivering impactful services. This case study explores the journey of The Prince’s Trust, as they sought to optimise their mobile infrastructure to better serve their mission of empowering young people. Michael Beattie, the Head of Infrastructure and Workplace, shares insights into their challenges, the solutions implemented, and the positive outcomes achieved through their partnership with GoodCall and HMD provided mobile handsets.

BACKGROUND AND CHALLENGES

The Prince’s Trust, a renowned charity organisation, focuses on supporting young people from disadvantaged communities, providing them with the confidence and skills needed to live, learn, and earn. The organisation’s frontline workforce, known as Youth Development Leads, plays a vital role in connecting with and supporting young individuals facing various adversities. Access to mobile phones is essential for effective communication and more. Michael adds, “Mobile phones are imperative, to enable them to support young people but also to ensure that proper safeguarding procedures can be followed effectively.”

Before reaching out to GoodCall, The Prince’s Trust faced challenges with an overly complicated and expensive mobile contract. The lack of flexibility and support from the previous network provider hindered effective management. According to Michael, “It was also difficult to manage dealing with the network provider direct and led to us paying for more than we required without support or an easy route forward to resolve.”

Micheal also stresses the importance of cybersecurity with a focus on gaining a future-proof setup, adding, “One of our requirements as an organisation is to be Cyber Essentials accredited. We had a mobile device population which was no longer secure, and we needed to move to a device which was secure not just for now but for the next few years, was good value for money and did not cause us issues.”

SOLUTIONS

The decision to partner with GoodCall stemmed from the need for a simplified, cost-effective mobile solution that aligned with The Prince’s Trust’s commitment to cybersecurity. Michael highlights, “GoodCall provided clear instructions on what was required to move onto the new tariffs and the impact of not completing the migration ASAP. This helped drive us to complete the necessary elements with their support and guidance.”

Due to the large volume of handsets required, GoodCall reached out to HMD to provide devices that addressed their concerns and goals. The decision to procure 800 HMD G60 devices were sought by The Prince’s Trust to solve any future problems with regards to security and costs. Michael explains, “The HMD devices provided us with [security], and with added peace of mind, the ability to lengthen security meant we felt assured the product was a good fit for the organisation.”

IMPACT

The adoption of HMD G60 devices brought tangible benefits to The Prince’s Trust. Michael emphasises, “Cost and security were the biggest driving factors for us, and HMD delivers in both areas more than any other handset we have used previously without sacrificing on performance and support.”

The Prince’s Trust partnership with GoodCall & HMD demonstrated a commitment to financial sustainability, an enhanced and bespoke customer experience, and robust security protection.

Micheal commented on GoodCall’s guidance, “Working with the account team at GoodCall has been by far the most positive experience, having a friendly and experienced team to rely on and guide us has been fantastic and helped me stay in control of ongoing costs and answer any questions I may have.”

RECOMMENDATION

Micheal Beattie recommends GoodCall to other non-profit organisations, stating “A knowledgeable, friendly team that are always on hand to help where they can.”

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, the success of this impact study illustrates that strategic partnerships with organisations like GoodCall can pave the way for nonprofit organisations to achieve their goals effectively, contributing to a better and more connected world. As Michael concludes, “The GoodCall team are always ready to jump on a call and look at any issues or questions we have. I feel they have provided great support.”
